Western Australian Museum

The Western Australian Museum's city site is the major cultural storehouse of the region. View 3 1/2billion year old micro-fossils representing the earliest evidence of life on Earth - found in the Pilbara.

The Museum also introduces you to Aboriginal Culture and Western Australia' birds, butterflies, mammals and meteorites. It also covers the arrival of the Europeans and their effect on the society and culture of the state.

The museum also hosts a series of exhibitions in addition to the permanent displays.

The Perth Mint

The Perth mint is Australia's oldest operating mint and its specialist precious metals mint. IT opened in June 1899, as a branch of the British Royal Mint, to refine gold produced in Western Australia's eastern Goldmines. Control of the mint transferred to the State government in 1970.
You can see hourly gold pours in the original Melting house and handle a $200,000 , 400 ounce gold bar.

The Constitutional Centre of Western Australia

The centre is located in a beautiful heritage building in West Perth, surrounded by leafy trees and playing fields. It provides a venue for exploring Western Australia's political history through exhibitions and special projects.

SciTech Discovery Centre 

Apparently you can fly on a magic carpet, freeze your own shadow, see your image being reflected a hundred times, beam yourself to Planet Zybotrox and play a mystical laser harp. Has won tourism awards in 1994, 1996 and 1997.

Western Australian Maritime Museum

This museum tells the story of Europeans first contact with Australia. Among the treasures are objects from Australia's oldest shipwreck, the Trial, and the reconstructed stern section of the Dutch ship Batavia, wrecked in 1629.

Fremantle History Museum

The former asylum building on Ord Street is one of Fremantle's most important landmarks. A onetime American Military base, the building is now home to the Fremantle History Museum.
Exhibitions include histories of Fremantle, the Mills and Ware Cake and Biscuit factory, and post war immigration to Australia.

WA Galleries

Art Gallery of Western Australia

The States Art collection includes one of the finest collections of Aboriginal Art in Australia. There are tours available on 1pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday. Entry is free to the main gallery, however exhibitions usually cost. Discounts are available for students (and probably if you just make yourself look really impoverished).

Delaney Galleries

Fremantle Arts Centre

A magnificent Neo-Gothic Style building constructed in 1860 (originally as a looney asylum) The Art Centres diverse programme includes exhibitions, creative arts courses and free Sunday concerts in Summer.


The Moore's Building     The Moore's building is a contemporary gallery in the west end of Fremantle. Art School Graduates display their work here and Art Awards and prizes are displayed in the Gallery. The building itself was constructed in the 1860s

Gallery East
